Reading and spelling assessment

Reading and spelling are complex processes. We need to identify your particular areas of strength and need before we can outline suitable treatment. We use formal assessments for:

  • spoken language and system of speech sounds (i.e., ‘phonological awareness’);

  • ability to identify letters and read them in the correct order;

  • reading and spelling phonics;

  • reading accuracy, fluency, and comprehension;

  • spelling rules related to grammar.

Assessments cost between $180 and $500, depending on what is required. A report is provided, along with any treatment recommendations. If you require treatment outside our area of expertise, we won’t hesitate to refer you on to find the help you need.

Reading and spelling treatment

Once we’ve identified your particular areas of need, we can target those effectively. Working from the best research evidence available, we tailor a treatment program for you. We teach you explicitly and systematically just what you need to know.

Treatment sessions are:

  • one-to-one (though on occasion, small groups could be arranged);

  • usually scheduled three times a week (30 or 45 minutes per session);

  • face-to-face (Sydney City and Inner West) or via video conferencing.

Sessions cost $120 for 45 minutes or $90 for 30 minutes.
